The day is finally here! “Animal Style!” is on the menu…
This is my first true solo project since ‘08 so I held nothing back and brought the best out of myself to give the people an amazing project and look into the FCC/ “Tree House” lifestyle in Los Angeles, circa 2010. “Animal Style!” derived from a hamburger chain that originated in SoCal called In-N-Out, and refers to a special way they prepare the burger and fries that only the locals and savvy customers even knew existed, on a “secret” menu. Being the hamburger aficionado I am (lol), I felt my music and this “food for thought” I was cooking up on this project was made by the city of angels and its inhabitants, and should only be available to them and the people who truly wanted to enjoy my product. For the fans who would scratch, claw, ditch school/work, just to get their hands on some El Prez music, “Animal Style!” was made for them.
Another big reason for the project being named after a burger is because whenever I think of an In-N-Out burger, it reminds me of sunny CA, from the palm trees, to the women and year-round warm weather. In other words, it reminds me of home, and putting this project out is my way of opening the doors of my home so the rest of the world can see how we live.
Putting this project together required a lot of cooks in the kitchen, each adding a certain flavor to the record to give people the taste they’re craving. On the production tip I got producers such as Ro Blvd (U-N-I, A Love Supreme), Chris “THX” Goodman (Snoop Dogg, MURS), Dae One (Bishop Lamont, Black Milk), SOV (Chip the Ripper, The Cleveland Show) and more to heat up the grill. I also brought in fellow makers of the taste Diz Gibran, Freddie Gibbs, Donwill, Von Pea, Shawn Chrystopher and others to season this record with the freshness they’re all known for baking.
From the hard-work anthem of “Burgertime”, to the heart-attack-inducing music of “King Kong (I’m Gone)” and the title track, “Animal Style” takes you on a journey in the day of the life of a black president in Southern California, looking for a good meal. Presented by IM-King clothing, 2Dopeboyz.com, DJBooth.net, and the FCC, “Animal Style!” is on the menu everywhere online and where good music is bootlegged ha!

I really didn’t see any of the Super Bowl ads because I had to go to work but I came across this one on Julien’s blog…

Broadcast before the kickoff of Super Bowl XLIV, NBA stars Dwight Howard and LeBron James star in a remake of iconic 1993 Super Bowl commercial The Showdown, which featured hall-of-famers Michael Jordan and Larry Bird in trick-shot competition for a Big Mac and fries. The new commercial titled “Check This” pits James against Howard in their own unique take on the battle for a Big Mac. The TV ad also features the reappearance of Larry Bird. Joe Pytka, commercial director for McDonalds original 1993 Super Bowl spot, also filmed the remake. Check This was filmed in Indianapolis at Conseco Fieldhouse in early January, 2010.

HBO: How To Make It In America (Episode 1 + Mixtape)

I have heard a lot of great things about this new HBO series and the music featured on the show. Like Entourage, one of HBO’s most successful shows, How To Make It In America is executive produced by Mark Wahlberg and features the music supervision of BrokeMogul. Also, Rob Weiss of Entourage fame is co-writing many of the scripts with first time writer Ian Edelman. The first episode will premiere this Sunday at 10pm but HBO let everyone watch it early via YouTube. Check both the show and the mixtape. Tracklisting after the jump!

I know this weekend is Valentines’ Day but none of you guys should pass on these just to buy your girl the necklace that she wanted! Hahah I’m just kidding. After being previewed last year, the second release from the Vans x Crooks & Castles collaboration will go on sale this upcoming Friday, February 12th. The shoes feature premium black epi leather and an all white midsole. Fortunately for like LA family, the shoes will be exclusive to the Melrose and Sunset Crooks & Castles stores but only release in limited numbers. Check after the jump for more pics!

Usugrow has been one of my favorite artist since I got the collaboration tee he first made with The Hundreds. It is still one of my favorite shirts to wear because no one can read or understand what it says. Coming off a recent art exhibit featuring his work, Usugrow has released a new set of tees through his clothing line Shinganist. If the money is flowing, expect to see me in a few of these.
