NCAA Bball! #4 Wake Forest Upsets #1 Ranked Duke!

Posted by Just10 on January 28, 2009

Unfortunately I missed the first half of this game but I was able to enjoy an entertaining second half. Wake Forest Demon Deacons led at halftime 33-28 but Duke slowly made a strong comeback. Gerald Henderson and Kyle Singler led the comeback for Duke. After being down as much as 11 points, dunks and free throws brought the Blue Devils to within 2 points with about 15 seconds to go. With the ball in Duke’s hands, Henderson dribbled from the right and pulled up to hit a great mid-range jump shot to tie the game. But Wake Forest would not be deterred. After Wake Forest’s Jeff Teague missing a difficult lay-up and Duke being called for a traveling violation, the Demon Deacons had a chance to win the game with 2.6 seconds left. With a quick timeout, Wake Forest set up their play on the baseline. Wake’s James Johnson set a small screen then cut to the basket for a wide open lay-up with 0.8 seconds to go! Game! After this Duke loss, there have now been three different number 1 teams to lose a week after reaching the top spot (UNC lost after seven weeks). Now it is Uconn Huskies’ turn to test the waters of number 1 positioning. And of course, next week the Huskies are going to play probably the hottest team in the country, the Louisville Cardinals! Stay Tuned!
